Roscosmos and Geoscan are testing "dome communication" from drones

New technology creates a communication zone with a radius of 40 km

The Roscosmos enterprise "Satellite System "Gonet"" together with the company "Geoscan" have begun testing a new communication technology — a promising solution called "Dome Communication".

The development allows you to quickly deploy a communication coverage area in the desired area using an unmanned aerial vehicle. As part of the project, the drone is used as a mobile base station, providing subscribers with access to communication channels from the air.

During the experiment, the Geoscan 201 unmanned aerial vehicle, the Gonets experimental airborne radio engineering complex and a specially designed antenna integrated directly into the drone's wing were used.

The drone was raised to a height of 100–120 meters, which made it possible to create a reliable coverage area with a radius of about 40 kilometers under it.
