The Russian Ka-62 helicopter, which received a type certificate of transport category in November 2021, needs import substitution of most systems and components due to sanctions. The Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation has announced a competition for the implementation of research and development work (code "Ka-62/9").
Currently, work is underway to create the Russian ATV-62 transmission and the VK-1600V engine. However, for independence from foreign supplies, it is necessary to develop and manufacture the following for the Ka-52:
- basic equipment complex
- crash-resistant fuel system
- windshield cleaning system
- air conditioning system
- helicopter equipment control system
- onboard cable network
The initial contract value is 3,289,199,690 rubles. The deadline for its execution is December 2027.
The contractor of the R&D project will have to prepare the Ka-52 for flight with the ATV-62 transmission and the VK-1600V engine by December 1, 2025. Bench tests of import-substituted helicopter units are scheduled between November 1, 2025, and December 2, 2026. Preliminary ground and flight tests of the prototype Ka-62 are scheduled from November 1, 2026, to December 3, 2027.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation expects that the serial production of the updated helicopter will be established in the country. In addition, Russian specialists will provide its technical support to maintain airworthiness.
