The effectiveness of the improvements to the light aircraft "Baikal" has been confirmed, and the development work on it will continue. This was stated by the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation.
During the preliminary tests of the "Baikal" aircraft, specialists made a number of comments. At the same time, the results of the study by the Federal State Budgetary Institution Research Center "N.E. Zhukovsky Institute" of the flight test reporting materials showed sufficient controllability and stability of the aircraft in most flight modes.
Some features of the aircraft's behavior in takeoff and landing flight modes are successfully eliminated by refining the design of the landing gear, tail unit, and control wiring in the longitudinal channel.
The department emphasized that the effectiveness of the completed improvements has been confirmed. Successful results allowed us to make a decision on the need to continue work, within the framework of which the LMS-901 aircraft will be modified by equipping it with an AV-901 propeller and a propulsion system with a VK-800SM engine of Russian production.
Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Trutnev reported that the situation with the production of the "Baikal" aircraft is currently at a dead end and its production is not expected. Instead, in Russia, for small aviation, they will focus on re-engining the An-2, the politician noted.
Earlier www1.ru reported that Rostec showed a detailed video of the "Superjet" flight with PD-8 at extreme speed.
