Footage of a low flight of a heavy Il-76 transport aircraft over Nizhny Novgorod has gone viral on the Web . The plane flew over the heads of residents at an extremely low altitude.
Obviously, the aircraft was heading to one of the airfields within the city limits. It is not known what caused the flight at an altitude of several hundred meters.
The Il-76 is the first transport aircraft with turbojet engines in the USSR. It made its first flight in 1971, and deliveries began in 1974. Due to the characteristic shape of the glazing of the navigator's cabin, it received the nickname "smiley".
A high-wing moderate sweep with strong mechanization, a fully pressurized fuselage and a T-shaped tail are distinctive features of the aircraft.
