Laptop Development Based on Baikal-L Processor Starts in Russia

ICL Techno to Release First Equipment Samples by the End of the Year

A laptop based on the new Baikal-L processor is being prepared for release in Russia. ICL Techno intends to present an MVP (sample) device for testing by the end of this year.

Currently, the company is designing motherboards compatible with the Russian processor. The timelines are still tentative, as Baikal-L is only planned for mass production.

Evgeny Stepanov, General Director of ICL Group, stated that there is high demand for devices with domestic processors. In the future, it is planned to produce more than 1 million laptops and tablets using Russian processors annually. ICL Techno expects to occupy about 20% of this market.

It is worth recalling that in 2021, Baikal Electronics received subsidies from the Ministry of Industry and Trade in the amount of 9.44 billion rubles for the development of two new processors. Baikal-S2 is intended for data centers, and Baikal-L should compete with the 12th generation Intel Core i5. However, it is still unclear where and in what volumes the new processors will be produced.
