The service life of Yak-40 passenger aircraft is planned to be extended from 50 to 60 years "to meet the needs of operators." Production of the aircraft was discontinued back in 1981, and there are currently about 15 such aircraft in operation.
The main criterion for extending the service life will be an assessment of compliance with the standards of the Federal Aviation Regulations for resource, strength, and corrosion, clarified a representative of PJSC Yakovlev (part of the United Aircraft Corporation of Rostec).
The need to refine the aircraft and the amount of such work will vary depending on the condition of the aircraft.
The goal of these plans is to meet the needs of operators in flights on this type of aircraft; a corresponding decision and issuance of documents may occur in December, said a representative of Rosaviatsia.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that no foreign parts remain in the SJ-100 aircraft.
