A BMD-4M with additional protection of a new type was spotted at the Victory Day Parade rehearsal in Moscow. Footage of the modernized vehicles appeared online.
The sides of the airborne combat vehicles' hull have been seriously reinforced by installing armored screens of a new shape on them, covering the elements of the chassis. Additional "overlays" are also visible in the front.
The protection of the gunner-operator and commander's sights has been improved. The turret was enveloped in a special net, which should neutralize HEAT projectiles.
Similar devices are also available on the air-droppable amphibious armored personnel carrier BTR-MD "Rakushka".
