Sales of electric vehicles in Russia plummeted by 69% in Q1 2025

Russian Evolute entered the top 3 popular brands

In the first quarter of 2025, sales of new electric vehicles in Russia decreased by 69% compared to the same period last year. According to the "AUTOSTAT" agency, only 1,854 new electric vehicles were sold in the country from January to March.

The market decline has been ongoing for nine consecutive months, starting in July 2024, and the situation has only worsened this year.

Notably, fewer electric vehicles were sold in the entire first quarter of this year than in March 2024 alone, when a monthly record of 2,499 vehicles was set. The sales surge at that time was attributed to the impending tightening of rules for importing electric vehicles through the EAEU countries, which came into effect on April 1, 2024. In anticipation of this, importers massively brought electric vehicles into Russia, which ensured a short-term increase in sales.

The leader in the new electric vehicle market remains the Chinese brand Zeekr, which accounted for 37% of all vehicles sold — 689 units. Second place was taken by the Chinese Avatr (193 units), and third place by the Russian Evolute (164 units). ORA (133 units) and "Moskvich" (103 units) were also in the top five.
