Sales of electric vehicles in Russia in January and February 2025 amounted to 1.27 thousand cars, which is 63% less compared to the same period last year. This decrease significantly exceeds the overall decline in the car market, which amounted to 9.3%. This was reported in Avtostat.
In February, electric vehicle sales decreased threefold, which is due to two factors. First, there is a depletion of demand after the previous growth. Secondly, high credit rates and indexation of the recycling fee have made electric vehicles less affordable. The average price for such cars has increased by almost 670 thousand rubles. Cold weather negatively affects battery performance, which also reduces interest in electric vehicles.
The sales leader remains the Chinese brand Zeekr, which occupies 36.6% of the market, although its volumes decreased by 72% year-on-year to 464 cars. In second place is the domestic brand Evolute with 114 electric vehicles sold, and Avatr closes the top three, increasing sales by 6% to 109 units.
Sergey Tselikov, General Director of Avtostat, does not see any prerequisites for improving the situation and predicts a further decrease in the share of electric vehicles in the market by 30-40%. At the same time, there is a growing interest in hybrid cars, which turned out to be more autonomous and do not require daily recharging.
