Tu-214 aircraft is of little interest to airlines: is the era over?

State customers currently prevail in the portfolio of firm contracts for the Tu-214

In 2025, two Tu-214 aircraft will be delivered to Russian airlines. There is currently no situation on the market where an airline has contracted an aircraft of this type and cannot wait for it, Rostec said.

The state corporation noted that the production of Tu-214 at KAZ at the beginning of 2022 was "focused" on the production of limited series for special customers, but not passenger aircraft for airlines. This is due to the fact that carriers bought foreign aircraft.

Rostec noted that in the current portfolio of firm contracts for the Tu-214, state customers currently prevail, and there is also a leasing company.

There are not so many machines for commercial operation yet. In our opinion, this suggests that the market is only beginning to "swing". There is talk about the need for Russian aircraft, but there is little practical action from airlines yet.

The media reported that the Kazan Aviation Plant named after S.P. Gorbunov, which is part of the Rostec United Aircraft Corporation, will not be able to build and transfer four medium-range Tu-214s to airlines by the end of 2025.

Earlier, Rostec reported that the MC-21 airliner was given the task of competing with Boeing and Airbus.
