Since the beginning of 2023, over 16.5 million fare payments have been made using geolocation in Russia. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Transport of Russia.
Using modern technology, passengers can pay for their journeys through a special application on their smartphone. The software automatically determines the user's location and route, after which the cost of the trip is calculated and an electronic ticket is generated. Payment is made instantly after confirmation.
This system is being implemented in various regions on urban and suburban land transport as part of the Ministry of Transport's "Green Digital Passenger Corridor" project.
Deputy Minister of Transport Andrey Nikitin noted that the use of new payment methods in public transport has become an important step towards the digital transformation of the country.
Reducing waiting time when boarding due to the ability to pay for travel using a mobile application makes public transport journeys more comfortable.
