Since the beginning of 2023, over 16.5 million fares have been paid using geolocation in Russia, according to the press service of the Ministry of Transport of Russia.
Using modern technology, passengers can pay for their journeys via a special smartphone application. The software automatically determines the user's location and route, then calculates the fare and generates an electronic ticket. Payment is made instantly upon confirmation.
This system is being implemented in various regions on urban and suburban land transport as part of the Ministry of Transport's "Green Digital Passenger Corridor" project.
Deputy Minister of Transport Andrei Nikitin noted that the use of new payment methods in public transport has become an important step towards the country's digital transformation.
Reducing waiting times when boarding due to the ability to pay for travel using a mobile application makes public transport journeys more comfortable.
