Rosatom starts manufacturing RITM-200 reactors for the Leningrad nuclear icebreaker

The company will manufacture two RITM-200 reactors for the Project 22220 vessel

PAO ZiO-Podolsk (part of Rosatom's engineering division, Atomenergomash) has started assembling the RITM-200 reactor vessel for the Leningrad nuclear icebreaker, Project 22220, the state corporation's press service reported.

The assembly began with the machining of the reactor vessel's flange.

Machining is the foundation of the entire RITM-200 equipment manufacturing cycle. And now we are observing deep drilling of channels - this is a unique technology that was invented at this enterprise, it is patented.
Anton Lebedev, General Director of ZiO-Podolsk

The Leningrad icebreaker's power plant consists of two RITM series reactors. These plants are half the weight and significantly more powerful than their Soviet counterparts. This allows for a significant increase in cargo traffic along the Northern Sea Route.

RITM-200 reactors have already been installed on the Arktika, Sibir, and Ural icebreakers, which confirms their high efficiency and reliability.

Earlier, www1.ru reported that Rosatom's enterprise set a new record in the production of zirconium cladding for nuclear fuel.
