Turkish company FNSS Savunma Sistemleri signed a contract at the IDEX-2025 arms exhibition to modernize Soviet-era BMP-3 tracked armored fighting vehicles belonging to the UAE Armed Forces. This was reported by Bulgarian Military.
The agreement involves the overhaul and modernization of 615 combat vehicles. The Emirates received the Soviet BMP-3s in the early 90s.
BMP-3s have proven their worth in conflicts in Kosovo and Yemen. However, as the fleet aged, maintenance costs for the combat vehicles continued to rise.
About the BMP-3
The combat vehicle is designed to transport personnel and operate jointly with tanks in combat. The BMP-3 was developed by SKB Mashinostroeniya and is manufactured at Kurganmashzavod.
