Roblox game becomes a tool for scammers: here's how fraudsters deceive children

Attackers offer children to buy Robux game currency at a reduced price

Scammers have become active on the wave of popularity of the online game Roblox, where children and teenagers create their own worlds, earn virtual money and communicate with each other. Attackers offer players to buy Robux game currency outside the official store at a reduced price and ask for parents' bank card details.

Most often, attackers operate in thematic communities (forums, chats, Discord, social networks) or write directly to the child in the game itself.

Scammers offer to buy game currency at a reduced price, but not through the official store. For "payment" they ask for bank card details or payment details of parents.

After transferring money, they can either not send anything, or gain access to the card for further debits.

Also, the child is promised free Robux, but for this you need to enter your Roblox account details. After that, the scammer changes the password and gets full control over the profile and all attached payment methods.

Earlier, law enforcement officers discovered another fraud scheme aimed at deceiving children. Fraudsters call parents under the guise of heads of educational institutions or teachers. They claim that it is necessary to update the electronic journal, lists of students or the child's profile in the "Sferum" system.
