"VKontakte" surpassed YouTube in reach among Russians

YouTube's monthly reach decreased to 89.6 million people amid a complete slowdown

The reach of "VKontakte" in December 2024 amounted to 92 million Russians, which allowed it to bypass YouTube, whose figure decreased to 89.6 million.

A Mediascope study shows that two years ago, "VKontakte" had an audience of 85.8 million users, while YouTube led with 91.5 million. Throughout 2023, "VKontakte" grew steadily, while YouTube's figure remained slightly above 95 million. In mid-2024, YouTube's reach began to fall — it decreased the most in the fall.

Problems with video playback on YouTube began to appear in August 2024. According to Roskomnadzor, this is due to Google's departure from Russia and the cessation of support for Google Global Cache servers.

Earlier www1.ru reported that WhatsApp messenger replaced YouTube in the top 3 most visited resources in Russia.
