Two Tu-95MS strategic missile carriers of the long-range aviation of the Aerospace Forces (VKS) of Russia performed a scheduled flight in the airspace over the neutral waters of the Sea of Okhotsk and the Sea of Japan. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Defense.
The duration of the flight was more than 8 hours. Fighter escort was provided by the crews of Su-35S and Su-30SM aircraft.
The Ministry of Defense recalled that long-range aviation crews regularly fly over the neutral waters of the Arctic, North Atlantic, Pacific Ocean, Black and Baltic Seas.
All flights of the Russian Aerospace Forces aircraft are carried out in strict accordance with international rules for the use of airspace.
Tu-95 (NATO classification - Bear) is a strategic bomber-missile carrier. It is designed to destroy important targets in remote military-geographical areas and in the deep rear of continental theaters of war with conventional and nuclear weapons.
It is armed with long-range cruise missiles with a payload of 25 tons, two 23 mm cannons. The Tu-95 is a strategic nuclear weapons carrier.
