AvtoVAZ has announced the start of mass production of cars equipped with a six-speed manual transmission.
The first model to receive the updated unit was the Lada Vesta. The gearbox, developed in collaboration with partners, is capable of withstanding torque up to 220 N·m, which opens up prospects for its integration with more powerful power plants.
In the future, the six-speed manual transmission may be integrated into other models. Among the potential candidates are the crossover, the presentation of which is scheduled for the summer of 2025, as well as the Lada Iskra. For the latter, the transmission will be combined with a 1.6-liter naturally aspirated engine producing 106 hp.
Of particular interest is the compatibility of the unit with turbocharged engines. Although the project to develop such an engine is still under discussion, the technical characteristics of the gearbox allow it to be considered as the basis for future power lines. For example, similar transmissions in the compact SUV segment are designed for a torque of about 210 N·m.
The novelty can also be adapted for a promising minivan, but its potential is recognized as insufficient for D-class crossovers. This emphasizes the need for further modernization of units for heavy-duty operation.
Localization of the production of modern transmissions reduces dependence on imported components and increases the competitiveness of the domestic automotive industry.
Earlier www1.ru reported that AvtoVAZ will present today Lada Iskra in all body types and Lada Niva with a 160-horsepower engine.
