No analogues or competitors: Russia has developed a non-toxic catalyst for cracking petroleum products

The substance works effectively both in seawater and on the coast

In North Ossetia, scientists have created a non-toxic catalyst that can break down petroleum products and plastic. In terms of its properties and cost, the substance has no analogues or competitors on the world market. It can be used both in water and on land.

Scientists from the North Ossetian State University, who invented the catalyst, offered assistance in the works in the Kerch Strait. They recalled that the time it takes for fuel oil to decompose into components that are safe for the environment and human health is from three to four months.

The approximate cost of raw materials needed to produce one ton of catalyst is 150 thousand rubles. To clean one square kilometer of contaminated area, from 0.5 to 0.6 tons of product will be required.

The technology can be implemented in two to three months. After solving the environmental problem, the established production can be used for other purposes. Scientists do not rule out that the catalyst will be exported.

Earlier, scientists from the Kuban State Technological University created a technology that allows efficient recycling of oil waste. The new method can be used to eliminate the consequences of emergencies, including contamination of the Black Sea with fuel oil.
