The tanker crash occurred due to difficult weather conditions and strong waves. Both tankers carried about 4,300 tons of fuel oil.
The tanker "Volgoneft-239" ran aground 18 meters from the shore in the Taman port area. All 14 crew members were evacuated to the shore.
The tanker "Volgoneft-212" received significant hull damage, 13 sailors were evacuated from it, one of whom died.
Rosmorrechflot reported an oil spill, the extent of the pollution is being clarified. The Investigative Committee has initiated criminal cases on the fact of violation of the rules of safe operation of maritime transport, later one of them was reclassified to a more serious article.
