Ksenia Kovalenko, a third-year student at the Institute of Aviation and Rocket and Space Technology of Samara University named after Korolyov, received an award from PJSC UAC for her development. She became the winner of the All-Russian competition of engineering works of students and young specialists "Future of Aviation - 2024", beating more than 500 other contestants.
The choice of the topic of the competition work is dictated by the times, since the proportion of composite materials in the design of modern aircraft is constantly increasing. Together with my brother, Gennady Kovalenko, a tenth-grader at Samara School No. 102, we developed the Fibercalc program for evaluating micrographs of the internal structure of the composite. The method we propose for evaluating the volume content of fibers in a layered composite allows for a quick, fairly simple and visual assessment of the manufacturability of composite products at low economic costs.
The development has already been tested in practice: NPO AeroVolga, which has been working with the university for many years, became interested in it. The company, which produces light amphibious aircraft, notes that the program provides operational additional control of the product after molding, and states that they are ready to offer the development of production technology at their industrial base. Fibercalc may be in demand at other aviation enterprises where the production and control of composite materials are required.
