В Москве разработали программу для улучшения навигации в космосе

The algorithm will also improve the quality of space monitoring systems

The Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT) has developed an innovative program for reconstructing high-quality images of space objects based on data from ground-based telescopes. This was reported in the press service of the university.

Modeling plays a key role in achieving our goals. We are confident that the study will not only strengthen current monitoring systems, but also lay the foundation for new ideas in the field of optimizing space observations.
Natalia Zavyalova, Head of the Laboratory for the Study of Radar Algorithms at MIPT (Dolgoprudny)

The new algorithm improves the accuracy of tracking the movement of objects in near-Earth space and within the Solar System. Scientists have studied the influence of the trajectory and speed of movement of celestial bodies, as well as the interaction of light with the atmosphere and light-sensitive matrices of telescopes.

Based on the data obtained, a software package was developed that accurately creates a model of a moving object during observations from a stationary telescope or when it follows this object. The algorithm also allows you to evaluate the performance of existing optoelectronic devices and use this information for their further improvement.

The created approach includes four stages. The first is the formation of an image of the area of space where the modeled object is located. The second is the analysis of changes in the radiation of an object when passing through the Earth's atmosphere. The third and fourth stages include assessing distortion and loss associated with the optical components of the telescope, and determining the number of photons reaching the photosensitive matrix.

It is expected that such detailed modeling of the operation of telescopes and other optoelectronic devices will increase the efficiency of new navigation systems for spacecraft and improve the quality of space monitoring.

Earlier www1.ru reported that TPU developed algorithms for testing spacecraft in microgravity conditions.
