Tests will improve the efficiency of pumping equipment

In the mechatronics and robotics laboratory at the TsKBM production site (machine-building division, part of Rosatom State Corporation), tests of laser welding of steel retaining rings have begun. They are designed to hold graphite bearing elements in the main circulation pumps. This was reported by the press service of the state corporation.

The diameter of the rings is about 8 cm, the thickness is only 0.3 mm. Due to the complex profile in cross-section, it is difficult to perform welding operations manually. Laser welding allows achieving high accuracy and quality of joints. This is important for reliable pump operation.

Even for highly qualified welders, this work is difficult to perform – it is difficult to ensure stable quality along the entire length of the seam, the slightest movement of the hand can lead to defects. Mastering robotic laser welding allows you to obtain a consistently high quality seam that does not require subsequent processing.

These tests are part of the development work aimed at improving production technologies and increasing the efficiency of pumping equipment.
