The Russian game console will be developed based on the «Elbrus» processor and other electronic components of domestic production, as well as using the Russian operating system. This was stated by State Duma deputy Anton Gorelkin, referring to the minutes of the meeting of the specialized working group.
The console project is being implemented by the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia on behalf of the President of the Russian Federation. The console will be based on the «Elbrus» processor, as well as other components produced in Russia. The operating system that will be used on the console will also be domestic; currently, the Ministry of Industry and Trade is choosing between the «Aurora» and «Alt Linux» systems.
The Skolkovo technological fund is developing the business model and concept of the console.
Gorelkin noted that «Elbrus» processors have not yet reached the level that would allow them to compete with market leaders such as PS5 and Xbox. Therefore, the development of a Russian console should include a non-standard solution, the deputy believes.
An important goal for the Russian console will be not just porting old games, but creating a platform that will help promote domestic video games. Gorelkin emphasized that this console should become a powerful tool for expanding the audience of Russian games beyond PC and mobile gaming.
Earlier www1.ru reported that Rostec has developed the smallest MP21 computer based on the «Elbrus-2C3» processor.
