Russian hosting company RUVDS has announced the launch of a unique project to test server equipment in the extreme conditions of Antarctica. Here are the details:
The equipment will be delivered to the Russian Antarctic station "Vostok", where it is planned to test high-speed data transmission in the harsh climate.
RUVDS already has experience in successfully launching a server at the North Pole in 2019 and now seeks to expand its research by sending a server to the South Pole, where temperatures can reach -80°C.
Our successful experience at the North Pole was the first step in testing. Antarctica, with its complex logistics and conditions, provides us with the opportunity to continue research at a new level
To ensure reliability and performance in such conditions, the company will use modern insulation and backup power systems.
Communication with the server will be carried out through a high-speed channel, which will be delivered together with the equipment. Although specific technologies have not yet been disclosed, the Arctic experiment used the StratoSat TK-1 satellite system, developed in collaboration with the Russian aerospace company Statonautica.
The server will be delivered to the Vostok station using specialized transport aircraft and ships capable of handling the difficulties of delivery to remote regions.
