«Норникель» придумал, как сократить потери драгоценных металлов на производстве

The new technology is already being used at Kola MMC

Nornickel announced the development of its own new scheme for dewatering matte. The solution operates in the refining shop of Kola MMC (part of Nornickel).

In the shop's matte separation unit at the magnetic separation stage, precious metals were previously extracted only from nickel concentrate. Now, they can also be extracted from crushed matte.

The engineering idea was implemented using the capacities available at the conversion stage. The matte undergoes preliminary processing—it is crushed in one of the ball mills located in the shop—and fed to magnetic separation as a pulp. There, separation takes place: precious metals in the form of a magnetic fraction are sent to the flotation conversion stage, and the non-magnetic fraction—depleted matte—is filtered and packaged into containers for subsequent shipment. If previously the precious metals contained in the matte were sent to partners for further processing, now they remain in the production chain. This contributes to a more efficient implementation of the production program.

Earlier in 2024, Nornickel introduced a new fluidized bed furnace for processing nickel ore. It is noteworthy that a virtual assistant was involved in the construction of such a facility in Russia for the first time. It monitored the pace of work at a facility the height of a nine-story building, and demolition robots and spider cranes were also involved in the creation of the furnace.
