In mid-December 2024, users in Russia faced new restrictions on access to YouTube. According to the Telegram channel "Backdoor," Roskomnadzor has begun to actively implement measures to slow down the video hosting service, which is noticeable by the decrease in traffic.
Companies providing cellular services have also begun to implement measures aimed at limiting the video loading speed on the YouTube platform. Until now, mobile device users could relatively freely view content through mobile devices.
In September, the speed of YouTube in Russia slowed down almost 10 times. The average waiting time for the start of a video for users of stationary networks increased to 11.01 seconds, and for mobile operators - to 3.83 seconds. Viewers from Russia have to wait five times longer for the video to start: 9.49 seconds instead of 1.27 seconds.
Earlier, Vladimir Putin explained why the foreign platform YouTube practically does not work in Russia. The head of state noted that the problem lies in the malfunctions of Google's equipment, on which the popular video hosting operates.
