The starting stage of the SKIF CCP (Siberian Ring Photon Source) accelerator complex has been launched in the Novosibirsk наукоград (science city) of Koltsovo. This is a linear accelerator.

According to the press service of the Ministry of Education and Science, during the initial tests, a beam from an electron source in the form of an electron gun flew through the entire structure of the linear accelerator. Its parameters, recorded by measuring instruments along the entire 25-meter length of the charged particle accelerator, fully comply with the design parameters. Like the rest of the equipment for the SKIF CCP, it was developed and manufactured by the Budker Institute of Nuclear Physics SB RAS (BINP SB RAS).

The launch of the SKIF CCP linear accelerator is a very important stage in the implementation of the project. The linear accelerator largely determines the quality of the beam, and accordingly, the quality of the synchrotron radiation source itself, that is, it actually determines the level of its brightness. It took us less than a month and a half, which is unprecedented; such work usually takes 6-8 months. An absolute record.

The future SKIF synchrotron belongs to the 4+ generation with a brightness that has not yet been achieved at any of the world's SR sources. At the same time, due to the strengthening of anti-Russian sanctions, scientists at BINP SB RAS had to quickly invent and implement their own technology for the production of high-energy electron and positron linear accelerators. Foreign partners refused to supply the necessary equipment, but Russian specialists both created a replacement for it and met all the deadlines for its delivery for installation at SKIF.

It is known that the equipment of the booster synchrotron has already been assembled in the tunnel of the SKIF CCP injector building. All 44 special stands (girders) with magnetic vacuum systems are in the design position. By the spring of 2025, the booster synchrotron equipment will be connected to the engineering systems and an automated radiation monitoring system will be installed there. Then scientists will be able to start working with the electron beam in this segment of the accelerator complex.
