Tula's "Scientific and Production Association "Splav" is modernizing 300mm guided and controlled rockets of the 9M55F/K and 9M544/549 families for the Smerch and Tornado-S MLRS. Engineers will improve the aeroballistic parameters of the product by reducing the cross-section of the aerodynamic fin deployment units.

According to open sources, the new 300mm URS will receive accelerating solid-propellant rocket engines with higher impulse fuel charges. The range of action in this case may increase to 180-200 km, approaching the capabilities of the 9M723-1 Iskander-M operational-tactical ballistic missiles.

NPO "Splav" is also developing a project for a guided rocket with a supersonic integrated ramjet engine with 4 extended air intake units.

If successfully implemented, the Russian Armed Forces will receive a 300mm URS, maintaining a speed of about 1000 m/s even in the terminal section of the trajectory due to the long adjustable period of fuel charge burnout.  The radius of action of such a projectile may approach 300 - 330 km, which will open new horizons for 300mm rocket artillery.
