They carry out reconnaissance of enemy targets and actions, then target designation for the detected objects is transmitted to the headquarters of the Air Force and Air Defense Forces of the Russian Aerospace Forces, after which it is distributed among the crews of Su-34NVOs with the selection of appropriate means of destruction — from Kh-38ML missiles to FAB-500T/M-62 aerial bombs.

In this case, the Z-16IRQ-V/L turret multispectral optoelectronic module with a laser rangefinder-designator and a thermal imaging channel was used as a modular equipment.

Turret modules with Z-16GAS-M-VR gasometric sensors, as well as Z-16GAMMA-VR gamma radiation sensors, can also be used as equipment. The gas analyzer or gasometric module allows detecting the presence of automotive equipment with operating power plants and gasoline/diesel generators in shelters by the presence of CO (carbon monoxide) and methane molecules in the low-altitude layers of the troposphere.
