The Uraltransmash plant (part of the Uralvagonzavod corporation) has developed modernized 2S4 Tyulpan self-propelled mortars for the Armed Forces. The vehicle with a 240 mm caliber gun is the largest in the "flower" series of such artillery systems as "Gvozdika", "Giatsint", "Akatsiya" and "Pion". All of them are in service with the artillery of the Russian Ground Forces and Missile Forces.
There are no analogues to the Russian "Tyulpan". It surpasses conventional artillery with its calibers from 100 mm. At a firing range of up to 20 km, its high-explosive mines with a projectile mass of up to 240 kg are capable of destroying enemy manpower, fortified fortifications and armored vehicles.
The 2S4 self-propelled gun weighing 27 tons is equipped with a diesel engine with a capacity of over 500 hp. It can travel on the highway at speeds up to 60 km/h.
The Tyulpan's ammunition load is 20 high-explosive mines weighing 130 kg or 10 active-rocket 230-kilogram mines. There is a winch for loading from the ground. The firing range is 17–19 km with active-rocket mines, and 7–9 km with conventional mines.
