The American Patriot PAC-3MSE anti-aircraft missile system unsuccessfully intercepted a missile from the Russian 9M723-1 tactical missile system "Iskander-M." Fragments of the foreign system's anti-aircraft missile after an unsuccessful air combat have been widely circulated online.
A segment of the gas-dynamic "belt" of the MIM-104F PAC-3MSE interceptor missile was discovered at the site of the SAM fragment's fall. This confirmed the Patriot's inability to intercept Russian maneuvering missiles in all cases using the kinetic kill method ("hit-to-kill") with the initiation of a warhead.
Nevertheless, during the interception, the MIM-104F damaged the planes and hull of the "Iskander-M," which led to its departure from the original target, noted military expert Evgeny Damantsev.
It also became known that the range of the "Iskander-M" has increased to 750 km. Now these weapons are capable of reaching the Zvyagel-Khmelnik-Zhmerynka-Shargorod line.
