The High-Precision Complexes holding (part of Rostec) has already completed the development of the advanced Birdcatcher anti-aircraft missile system. The combat vehicle is made on the BMD-4M chassis for airborne units.
The Sosna combat module is equipped with two launchers for 12 Sosna-R missiles. They are capable of hitting aerial targets at an altitude of up to 5 km and a range of up to 10 km. The Sosna-R guided missile is capable of reaching speeds of up to 900 m/s and homing in on a target in a laser beam, which the target is accompanied by from the SAM combat module.
The air defense system can be parachuted along with the «winged infantry» unit. Also, the «Birdcatcher» is distinguished by the possibility of placing the launcher on various carriers with a lifting capacity of 3.5 tons, stealth in combat operations, a large ammunition load of anti-aircraft guided missiles and high survivability on the battlefield.
Main characteristics of the Birdcatcher air defense system:
- Area of destruction of aerial targets: in range — 1.3-10 km, in height — 5 km
- Ammunition load — 12 anti-aircraft guided missiles
- Missile guidance method — laser beam teleorientation
