A new two-module high-explosive fragmentation warhead of increased power with massive high-speed striking elements in the form of thousands of steel cubes has been developed for the Russian Kh-101 air-launched cruise missiles. Similar elements are equipped with the warheads of long-range guided anti-aircraft missiles 48N6E2 and 48N6DM of the S-300PM2 and S-400 Triumph complexes, military expert Yevgeny Damantsev said.
He noted that the weight of the new warhead for the Kh-101 increased from 450 to 800 kg. This ensures that target objects are inflicted with much more critical damage due to an almost twofold increase in the density of the fragmentation field.
Increasing the weight of the warhead to 800 kg led to the need to reduce the volume of the fuel system by 28 - 36%. The mass of fuel decreased from 1250 to 800 kg, which reduced the range from 5500 to 3960 km.
The Kh-101 carriers are the Tu-95MSM and Tu-160 strategic bombers.
