The Russian government will launch an experiment on the submission of biometrics by foreigners and stateless persons wishing to enter the territory of Russia. The decree was signed by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.
The first phase of the experiment will take place from December 1 this year to June 30, 2026, in two stages. During this period, all foreigners entering Russia through the international airports of Moscow (Domodedovo, Sheremetyevo, Vnukovo) and the Moscow region (Zhukovsky), as well as the road checkpoint in the Orenburg region (Mashtakovo), will be required to present biometric data at the checkpoints.
The second phase will be conducted from June 30, 2025, to June 30, 2026. From this point on, citizens of other countries will be able to specify all their data and the purpose of their visit to Russia in a special application.
The changes will not affect citizens of Belarus, children under six years of age, diplomats and employees of diplomatic missions of foreign states in Russia, employees of international organizations accredited in the Russian Federation, and members of their families.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that Moscow will begin issuing electronic passports to migrants.
