Amidst the presentation of the American autonomous machine gun Bullfrog with AI from Allen Control Systems, Russian military expert Alexey Zhivov criticized the situation surrounding similar domestic smart robotic systems. He noted that, in practice, they do not yet exist.
We are probably conducting in-depth R&D and mastering funds. I cannot explain why no one has shown a single automated turret in 3 years. An impossible task. Remember when Shoigu was minister, some people showed him a hastily welded pair of three PKMs with the simplest frame on a hinge with serious faces... By the way, I recently attended exercises on shooting down mock UAVs. I can tell you that shooting down a drone with an assault rifle is an extraordinary task, but even shooting down a drone with a shotgun is not easy. What annoys me most in this whole story is that a team of 10 weapons engineers could handle this task in six months to a year, with a trained neural network (they exist!!!) and sufficient funding.
It is worth noting that Russian engineers have presented various developments for creating robotic and remotely controlled platforms to counter enemy drones. In particular, it was proposed to install an anti-drone mini-turret on the base of the "Tosha" all-terrain platform. A solution was also presented in the form of a semi-automatic remotely controlled module for aimed fire "Chapai".
However, so far, these and other publicly presented versions of automated turrets are not as modern and not connected to neural networks as their American counterpart. Also, there is no information about large deliveries of such turrets to the Ministry of Defense.
