JSC Tupolev plans to restore the Tu-144 aircraft. This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister Vitaly Savelyev as part of the educational marathon "Knowledge. First".
The [Tu-144 and Concorde] aircraft were a little ahead of their time at that period, but we will return to this, because this is the future. Of course, flying even to the Far East is unpleasant - after all, 8 or 9 hours in flight is a long time. Therefore, I think this is the near future, and you and I will also see it.
In addition, Konstantin Timofeev, Director of JSC Tupolev, said that after the restoration, the aircraft could be used as a flying laboratory.
One of these machines is at our base in Zhukovsky, and in fairly good condition. Restoring its airworthiness could be the first step towards reviving supersonic air travel in our country.
Now the main task of the manufacturer is the serial production of Tu-214 aircraft. The use of the aircraft as a laboratory will have a significant impact on the development of civil aviation in Russia.
