The Ministry of Economy of Taiwan spoke about how it complies with anti-Russian sanctions and anti-Belarusian sanctions. For eight months of 2024 — from the beginning of March to the beginning of November — it achieved a complete cessation of machine tool supplies to Russia.
The department noted that «given the characteristics of dual-use machine tools for military and civilian purposes and the possibility of their use for Russian military purposes», from March 8, 2024, it introduced a ban on the export of 77 tax codes of machine tool construction (HS codes). These are electrical discharge machines, machining centers, turning, milling and grinding machines, and other equipment.
After the introduction of control measures, the number of machine tools exported by our country to Russia was reduced to zero. This result shows that the control measures taken by the Ministry of Economy have achieved results.
Also, official Taipei increased fines for manufacturers and exporters for the initial violation of sanctions against Russia and Belarus by more than 15 times. The supply of machine tools and other sanctioned goods, for example, microelectronics, threatens them with a fine of up to 1 million Taiwan dollars (more than 31.3 thousand US dollars).
The Ministry of Economy of Taiwan notes that it is conducting «active outreach work» with manufacturers, urging them to control supplies to the end user. They are obliged to officially guarantee that their goods will not be supplied to Russia and Belarus through third countries friendly to Moscow and Minsk.
