A rare Soviet armored personnel carrier 502TB "Altaets" has been delivered to the Russian military. Footage of the combat vehicle has already appeared online.
The multi-purpose armored vehicle has been developed since 1989 on the units and assemblies of the BMP-3 as another option to replace the irreplaceable MT-LB, but it was sent to storage bases and the backyards of research institutes.
The armored personnel carrier is based on the KSHM "Potok-4(1)" chassis, made in a steel hull. Four prototypes of this vehicle successfully passed state tests as part of the "Altaets" complex and are currently located at storage bases.
Specific characteristics of the "Altaets" armored vehicle are not publicly available. A likely reason why the 502TB did not go into mass production is an unsuccessful layout, which made any placement of troops on board problematic in principle.
Earlier, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation explained the principle of operation of the UR-77 "Meteorit" mine clearance vehicle. At the same time, the military began to use it to strike at enemy positions.
