Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak told reporters about the situation surrounding the Akkuyu NPP. According to him, "a number of unfriendly countries" are trying to prevent the realization of the "Turkish people's dream" of free access to peaceful atom. However, all problems have been resolved, and the necessary components for construction have already been provided by countries friendly to Russia.
For example, we encountered a situation where, despite the concluded contract, a supplier from a Western country — Siemens — violated its contractual obligations to supply a certain range of equipment. Although it is not critical, it is significant for the project. Despite all our efforts, as well as the involvement of the Turkish side, the negotiations did not yield constructive results. The equipment was never delivered to the site.
Novak noted that Rosatom, together with its Turkish partners, "promptly carried out all the necessary corrective measures and found a solution".
Alternative equipment was purchased from friendly countries. The first batch of equipment has already been delivered to the Akkuyu NPP site.
The official noted that the launch dates for the first unit of the Akkuyu NPP are being clarified, but all four power units of the station will definitely be operational in 2028. To this end, "all efforts" are being made jointly with the Turkish side.
It is known that Turkey is already preparing retaliatory measures against the German Siemens due to delays in the supply of equipment for the Akkuyu NPP.
