Rosstandart approved the parameters of the NB-IoT communication protocol (narrowband cellular communication standard for the Internet of Things) as a national standard, the press service of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia reported. Its text will be published within 30 days.
The new standard establishes requirements for equipment, data transmission parameters, and energy-saving modes. Telecom operators believe that NB-IoT will help utilize existing networks in populated areas. In addition, standardization will simplify participation in government procurement.
According to TelecomDaily, in 2023, the industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) market in the Russian Federation amounted to 144.4 billion rubles. Deputy Head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Vasily Shpak stated that since the beginning of 2024, expenses for the implementation of IoT-based solutions have increased by 15%, to 158 billion rubles.
