The "Ruselectronics" holding of the Rostec State Corporation has developed a new infrared camera, UTK-4, designed to detect methane leaks in gas pipelines. This device has already successfully passed the first tests and is capable of detecting leaks at a distance of up to 20 km, using laser illumination to improve visibility.

The camera was developed by engineers at the Central Research Institute "Electron", which is part of "Ruselectronics". It is equipped with a sealed housing and operates in the near-infrared range of 0.95-1.65 μm. The principle of operation of the device is based on measuring the attenuation of radiation in the methane absorption spectrum using a special television sensor. The camera also has a sensitive photocathode and an electron-sensitive matrix, which allows you to accurately identify areas of increased methane concentration in the image.

According to Alexey Vyaznikov, General Director of the Central Research Institute "Electron", thanks to the conversion of infrared radiation into an image, the device allows you to clearly localize the location of the leak, linking it to a specific area. The use of laser illumination turns the camera into an active pulsed system, which ensures its operation in difficult weather conditions, such as fog or rain.

The camera can be installed at gas distribution and main stations, which significantly increases the safety and efficiency of gas pipeline monitoring.
