The authorities plan to completely restrict the operation of Youtube in Russia. The service will be disabled after monetization is set up for bloggers on domestic platforms for posting author's videos. This was announced by State Duma Vice Speaker Boris Chernyshov.
The situation around the foreign video hosting service is becoming more and more detailed every day. Information about the complete blocking and slowing down of the service continues to circulate in the news feeds. Despite this, the Kremlin has resumed publications on its channel on the Youtube platform. The press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Peskov, explained this action by the desire of the authorities to "reach" the foreign audience.
There is also data on the real reasons for slowing down the service. Roskomnadzor, in an official response to the Deputy Director of the Department of Mass Communications Development and International Cooperation of the Ministry of Digital Development of Russia, E.V. Chasovskaya, explained that the reason for these actions was the blocking of channels of famous Russian performers such as SHAMAN, Polina Gagarina, Oleg Gazmanov and Grigory Leps by Youtube. The department sent a letter to the office of Google LLC in Russia. When no response followed, it was decided to slow down the video hosting service.
In parallel with everything that is happening, discontent is growing among Russian providers. Many users began to abandon their services due to the lack of access to video hosting materials.
As a result, the Rosteleset association (uniting more than 200 regional telecom operators) complained to the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS), pointing to signs of violation of the law "On Protection of Competition". The video hosting and search engine Google stopped working normally for customers of wired Internet operators, while mobile companies can still provide users with the best service.
