An updated Uragan-1 multiple launch rocket system has been spotted on the front lines as part of one of the artillery units of the Russian Armed Forces. Military expert Evgeny Damantsev revealed the technical characteristics of the new product.
He drew attention to the fact that the MLRS is installed on a modern BAZ-69092 Voshchina-1 chassis with an armored crew cabin, providing anti-fragmentation protection against heavy high-speed fragments when a projectile explodes at a distance of up to 15 meters.
This cabin, used on the Voshchina-1 chassis as part of the Malva self-propelled guns, has demonstrated resistance to tungsten balls from the shrapnel warhead of 227-mm M30A1 GMLRS guided missiles of HIMARS/MLRS systems. The cabin of the standard 9P140 self-propelled launcher did not provide these capabilities.
At the same time, the Uragan-1 MLRS, unlike the Tornado-G, did not receive an automated guidance and fire control system, which is installed on the more advanced Uragan-1M MLRS with a bi-caliber ammunition load.
Earlier www1.ru reported that the Kalashnikov arms concern is unifying the catapult for UAVs and loitering munitions. Testing of a prototype has already begun.
