Samara State Technical University has taken an important step in developing new sodium-conducting materials to reduce the cost of battery production. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation.
The materials are planned to be made a component of sodium-ion batteries as an alternative to lithium-ion counterparts.
Currently, the most popular metal-ion batteries are lithium-ion batteries. However, manufacturers face a number of problems associated with the depletion of lithium resources and, as a result, the high cost of the device.
Experts studied 600 sodium-containing complex chalcogenide compounds and selected six suitable for further study. They are expected to have greater ionic conductivity compared to oxide counterparts.
The found materials will be tested. Their use will reduce the cost of battery production, increase their power and service life.
