The head of the regional branch of the right-wing German faction "Alternative for Germany" (AfD), Björn Höcke, arrived at the polling station in a Russian-made Lada Niva car. This was reported by the NTV television channel.
The head and main candidate of the AfD in Thuringia voted at noon: the 52-year-old man arrived at his polling station in a Lada Niva — a Russian-made SUV.
Regional elections were held on Sunday in two federal states in eastern Germany — Saxony and Thuringia. The AfD won a decisive victory in the elections to the state parliament in Thuringia in eastern Germany, gaining 32.8% of the vote. These are the official preliminary results, published on the evening of September 1.
Lada Niva is a Soviet and Russian off-road vehicle. The SUV has been in serial production since 1977. The car has appeared in many Western films, for example, in "Black Widow" of the Marvel cinematic universe, "The Crimson Rivers" with Jean Reno, and "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" by Ben Stiller.
Earlier it became known that the serial production of LADA Niva Sport is starting in Russia. Buyers will be able to purchase it before the end of 2024.
