In Russia, the "People Nearby" function in Telegram has stopped working properly. It allowed users to search for users and groups that are located near the user.
This function was not very popular in the Russian segment of Telegram because it was often used by malicious actors. It is unclear what caused its deactivation — a technical failure or whether it was done intentionally. The fact is that users from the contact list are still displayed in this menu, but new people nearby cannot be found.
It is important to note that the search for people nearby is still available in Italy, France, Poland, Germany, and the USA. Note that in Russia, Telegram has also stopped displaying the counter of active users for bots.
