The Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media of Russia has proposed that foreigners and stateless persons participate in an experiment related to biometrics for crossing the border of the Russian Federation.
The goal of the project is to increase the level of security. It is emphasized that this initiative is similar to the practice of obtaining Schengen visas.
The project will be implemented in two stages. At the first stage, biometrics will be collected directly upon entry into Russia. At the second stage, it is planned to be able to submit biometrics in advance through a special application and submit an application with data and information about the purpose of the visit.
If the experiment is successful, this practice will be implemented on a permanent basis. The draft government decree has been published on the portal of draft regulatory legal acts.
