Дрон-синоптик: в Новосибирске создали беспилотник для исследования погоды

New device being tested for accurate data collection

The Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences has developed a spherical unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) for studying weather phenomena. This was announced by Andrey Shmakov, a researcher at the institute.

The drone will study the weather based on measurements of turbulence processes in the atmosphere.

The prototype of the new drone is about 30 cm in size with a wingspan of the screws. The body has the shape of a sphere, it was created using 3D printing. The screws are made of carbon fiber.

Currently, the developers are calibrating the UAV for correct measurement of air flows.

For this, my colleagues at the institute built an air wall, which is an array of small fans measuring 80 by 80 mm. In this way, controlled disturbances are created that change over time.

For testing, the drone is mounted on a movable hinge opposite the wall. This approach ensures the safety of the device and makes it possible to avoid its destruction in critical modes. All information from the UAV is sent to a computer, then it is studied by specialists.

Earlier www1.ru reported that Yandex launched OmniCast technology for weather analysis.
