Russia has various types of non-strategic (tactical) nuclear weapons, which differ in delivery system and type of warheads. The West is monitoring the maneuvers of the Russian Armed Forces with tactical nuclear weapons. Bulgarian Military has named the carriers of such weapons.
One of the key categories of Russia's non-strategic nuclear weapons is aviation ammunition. Su-24M, Su-34, and Tu-22M3 aircraft can carry nuclear bombs and cruise missiles with nuclear warheads.
Russia also has sea-based nuclear weapons: torpedoes with a nuclear charge, depth charges, anti-ship and anti-submarine missiles. Surface ships and submarines of the Russian Navy, including advanced Yasen-M class submarines, are equipped with such weapons.
The nuclear arsenal also includes ground-based systems, including the Iskander-M OTRK. These systems are designed to engage enemy forces and infrastructure in the theater of operations, providing a rapid response capability.
According to Bulgarian Military, Russia is integrating non-strategic nuclear weapons into its air defense systems. For example, missiles for the S-300 and S-400 can potentially be equipped with nuclear warheads. This dual function allows them to perform both air defense and tactical nuclear weapon roles.
