Second Stage of the Largest Container Train Processing Center Beyond the Urals Opens Near Novosibirsk

The second stage included the construction of a second container площадка and a park for sorting wagons

The second stage of the largest transport and logistics center (TLC) "Sibirsky" beyond the Urals for processing container trains was put into operation near Novosibirsk on Thursday, August 1.

The first stage of TLC "Sibirsky" was opened in October 2023. The terminal has become a key resident of the special economic zone "Novosibirsk" being created in the region.

Alexander Kakhidze, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Novosibirsk Transport Terminal (NNT), announced at the event that the construction of the second stage of TLC "Sibirsky" was completed ahead of schedule. The terminal is now capable of handling over ten container trains traveling from the Far East to St. Petersburg, the Central and Southern Federal Districts.

The use of gondola cars allows for the rapid transportation of products from the Far Eastern ports. The third stage is expected to open in August 2025, which will increase the capacity of the TLC to 15 container trains per day.

As part of the second stage of development, the TLC built a second container площадка adapted for the use of crane technology, as well as a specialized railway park for the accumulation and sorting of wagons. The construction of a new four-track receiving and departure park for handling full-length container trains has also been completed.

Anatoly Seryshev, Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Russian Federation in Siberia, noted that this project is very important for the country, as it systematically solves existing transport and logistics problems. Veronika Nikishina, General Director of the Russian Export Center, in turn, emphasized that the implementation of this project will significantly increase the volume of trade between the Siberian regions and foreign partners.

The project to create TLC "Sibirsky" was agreed upon in June 2019 at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF). It envisages development on an area of 338 hectares with the processing of 1 million TEU (twenty-foot equivalent unit) per year. The third stage is scheduled to open in 2025.

The commissioning of TLC "Sibirsky" at the Chik station of the West Siberian Railway will significantly change the movement of container cargo from the Far East to the European part of Russia, making the new terminal a key cargo hub on the Trans-Siberian Railway. The implementation of the project involves the format of a "cargo village".

Investments in TLC "Sibirsky" will amount to 15 billion rubles. The design capacity of the first stage of the TLC is 300 thousand TEU per year, the second is 600 thousand, and the third is 1 million. The TLC is being implemented by Novosibirsk Transport Terminal as part of the state program "Development of the Transport System".
